Food from the City. For the City.

Kansas City’s “Food From the City…For the City” urban farm and garden tour takes place on June 28th. For a mere $5 ($12 for a family of three or more), you can get a look at some great examples of Midwestern urban agriculture. Learn more here: http://urbanfarmstourkc.com/

What can and should a growing Kansas City look like? Imagine backyards, empty lots, public lands, and “empty” space being used for growing fruits, vegetables and more. A panel of growers, community activists, and educators will share their vision for a Kansas City that produces more of its own food. A reception featuring local and organic food and beverages precedes the talk.

WattzOn.com

Check out how Saul Griffith visualizes climate change at WattzOn. He breaks everything down into the same units of energy (Watts) and compares it that way. In many ways, a more accessible to track a carbon footprint -- and you can track your own energy, too.

I learned about Saul and WattzOn recently at an AIGA webcast of the AIGA San Francisco conference CompostModern. But I think this talk is very similar.

check out how well a street behaves without all the rules, regulations, separation of travel modes etc. etc. the video starts out a little fast, but gets into a nice rhythm soon enough. there's even room for the good old automobile. it's not about the form, it's about the behavior.
